Southbound vans, northbound trailers
Oregon shows a clear pattern in our records for January through September 2026. About two loads in three were leaving the state, and those were dry vans. The loads coming in were mostly power only, where we pull a loaded trailer that belongs to the shipper.
In total we averaged close to two Oregon loads a week, and we had loads in the state in about three weeks out of four.
The Willamette Valley to California
The largest piece is dry van freight from Eugene and the towns just north of it. About once a week a load leaves the southern Willamette Valley on Interstate 5, crosses the Siskiyou Summit into California and delivers 250 to 950 miles later.
The most frequent destination is the northern San Joaquin Valley near Modesto, about 560 miles and normally a next day delivery. Others stop in far Northern California just past the state line, or continue to the Inland Empire. A few went as far as Phoenix.
Medford and Redding are the last large truck stops on either side of the state line, about 150 miles apart. Partner carriers haul these loads, and we vet each one through Highway before dispatch. Most of the trip is on the California side, so the carrier has to meet California rules as well as Oregon rules.
Southern California to Portland and beyond
Going the other way, about once a month we send a power only load from the Inland Empire to the Portland area, a little over 1,000 miles and a two to three day trip. Our own trucks pulled more than half of those in 2026.
Similar loads went to Salem and Medford a few times. One Portland area delivery was just across the Columbia in Vancouver, Washington. The route and timing are the same as on our Los Angeles to Seattle lane, since Portland is on the way.
What to expect when you ship with us in Oregon
Be aware of three things. First, our Oregon volume is steady but not large, so a day or two of notice matters more here than in Southern California. Second, the Siskiyou Summit on Interstate 5 is the highest pass on that highway, and chain requirements or closures in winter can hold a truck for hours. Third, Interstate 5 is the only interstate running the length of the state from north to south, so when it closes there is no fast way around.
Oregon also charges trucks a weight mile tax instead of a diesel fuel tax, and carriers must be registered for it. The carrier handles that, and it is already part of the price we quote.
We have no office, yard or employees in Oregon. Your load is handled from Covina, California. For the rest of our Northwest coverage, see Washington and Idaho.
