An inbound state for us

Washington is the far end of our longest regular trip. From January through September 2026, about six loads in seven that touched the state were deliveries, and almost every one of those started in the Inland Empire of Southern California.

Three loads in four were power only. The shipper owns the trailer and has it loaded and waiting, and we send the tractor and driver. The rest were dry vans.

Tacoma, Seattle and the Puget Sound

About two thirds of our Washington loads deliver in the Puget Sound region, around once a week. The usual stops are in the warehouse districts of the Green River and Puyallup valleys: Fife, Sumner, Auburn and Tukwila, plus Lakewood and Federal Way. A number of loads also continued north on Interstate 5 to Skagit County.

The trip is described in detail on the Los Angeles to Seattle page. It is about 1,170 miles, and partner carriers hauled most of those loads, with our own trucks on about one in six.

Spokane and eastern Washington

Spokane is a different trip. Trucks leave Southern California on Interstate 15, turn onto Interstate 84 in Utah and cross Idaho and eastern Oregon, or run up US 395. Either way it is about 1,250 miles and three days for one driver.

We sent a power only load to the Spokane area about once a month in 2026, and our own trucks pulled most of them. Eastern Washington is also the only part of the state where we picked up: a few dry van loads came back from Spokane and the Columbia Basin.

Southwest Washington

A few loads delivered along Interstate 5 between the Columbia River and Olympia, in Lewis County. They follow the same route as the Tacoma loads and arrive a couple of hours sooner.

Planning a delivery around Seattle and Tacoma

Traffic is a planning factor of its own here. Interstate 5 between Tacoma and Seattle is congested for much of the working day, and the warehouse valleys sit along State Route 167, which is no better at rush hour. A delivery appointment at seven in the morning and one at three in the afternoon are very different trips for the driver. Give us the receiving hours with any Washington quote request.

What to know before you book

Because nearly all of our Washington freight is inbound, we are strongest at getting a load to Washington and honest about the return. If you need freight moved out of Seattle or Tacoma, we can quote it, but we do not have regular southbound loads to pair it with yet.

Winter weather on the Siskiyou Summit in southern Oregon is the most common cause of delay on the way north. Snoqualmie Pass on Interstate 90 affects loads between Seattle and Spokane.

We have no office, yard or staff in Washington. Loads are dispatched from Covina, California. See also Oregon, which most of these trucks pass through, and power only trucking.

Mostly the Tacoma and Seattle area, including Fife, Sumner, Auburn and Tukwila. We also deliver to Spokane about once a month and occasionally to southwest Washington and Skagit County.
How long does a load take from Southern California to Tacoma?
Two to three days with one driver. The trip is about 1,170 miles, and our loads took a median of about 53 hours from pickup to delivery.
Can you pick up freight in Washington?
We can quote it. Today nearly all of our Washington loads are deliveries, with a small number of pickups in the Spokane area.
