Dry freight from a produce valley
The Salinas Valley is known for lettuce and other fresh vegetables, and most trucks leaving it pull refrigerated trailers. That is not the freight we handle. What we move from Salinas is dry freight: loads that travel in a standard dry van or on a flatbed and do not need to be kept cold.
From January through September 2026 about seven loads in ten here were dry van and about a quarter were flatbed. If you ship packaging, supplies, equipment or other dry goods into or out of Monterey County, that is the kind of load we are set up to quote.
Where the loads go
Roughly seven in ten of our Central Coast loads are outbound. The main lane runs from Salinas to the Inland Empire, a few loads a week and about 330 miles. A few more loads each week go to Los Angeles County, and a few a month to Orange County. The route, timing and coverage are on the Salinas to Los Angeles page.
Flatbeds from the valley also run to northern Nevada, around 360 miles over the Sierra, about once a month.
Freight coming into the valley
The inbound side is mostly flatbed. About one flatbed a week arrives from Phoenix, close to 700 miles, delivering to towns along US 101 south of Salinas and in neighboring San Benito County. Dry vans come down from the Bay Area a few times a month, and power only loads come up from the Inland Empire about once a month.
What we mean by the Salinas market
The market is wider than the city. Pickups and deliveries run the length of the valley along US 101 through Monterey County, and into San Benito County to the north, where the land opens toward Hollister. The San Francisco Bay Area is about two hours farther north and is a separate market for us, with a load or two a week of its own.
Who covers Salinas loads
Partner carriers haul almost all of our Salinas freight. Our own trucks are based in Southern California and only occasionally run this far north, so we are acting as your broker here: we find the truck, vet the carrier through Highway, track the load and handle the paperwork.
Some dry van deliveries from Salinas into the Inland Empire are dropped trailers, about one in four in 2026. Live loading is the norm at the Salinas end.
We have no office or yard on the Central Coast. Everything is dispatched from Covina.
Getting a truck in Salinas
Capacity here follows the produce calendar. From spring through fall the valley is full of trucks, but most are refrigerated units booked on produce. Dry vans and flatbeds often have to be brought in, which is why a day or two of notice makes a real difference to both price and pickup time. When the harvest moves to the desert in winter, fewer trucks pass through at all.

- It is a little over 300 miles, mostly on US 101. A load picked up in the morning normally delivers the next day.
