A narrow but steady market
San Diego is a market we run with clockwork consistency. From January through September 2026 we had loads into San Diego County in all but two weeks, usually one or two a week. The flatbed run from Phoenix that carries most of them moved in 36 of those 39 weeks on its own.
Almost every one was a delivery. We picked up in the county only once in that period. So if you need freight brought into San Diego, we have current experience. If you need freight taken out, we can quote it, but it is not a lane we run regularly today.
Mostly flatbed, mostly from Phoenix
About six loads in seven were flatbed, which makes San Diego unlike any of our other California markets. The freight loads in the Phoenix area and travels roughly 340 miles west on Interstate 8 through Yuma and El Centro, then over the mountains into the county. Most of it delivers in the inland north county.
The remaining loads were dry vans into the city of San Diego and nearby communities.
How these loads are covered
Our own fleet is dry vans, so the flatbed loads go to partner carriers. We handle the rest: finding a carrier with the right deck and securement gear, vetting them through Highway, tracking the load and sending the paperwork. More about how we cover open deck freight is on the flatbed trucking page.
A morning pickup in Phoenix normally delivers in San Diego County the next day. Interstate 8 is the direct road from Arizona. It rises from below sea level in the Imperial Valley to about 4,000 feet in less than an hour of driving, and that grade is sometimes closed to high profile vehicles in strong wind, which can hold a load for a few hours.
What we do not do in San Diego
San Diego has a port of entry at Otay Mesa and a large cross border freight community. That is not our business. We do not list cross border trucking or customs services, and we do not move freight to or from Tijuana.
We also have no office, yard or staff in San Diego. Your load is planned and tracked from our one location in Covina, about 120 miles north.
Other freight we can quote here
San Diego is about two hours from our home base when traffic allows, so dry van loads between the county and Los Angeles or the Inland Empire are well within reach of our own trucks. We have not run many, and we will say so, but we are glad to price them.
