Fontana as a freight market
Fontana was a steel town. The mill on the south side of the city closed decades ago, and the land it left behind, along with the speedway that followed it, is now being built out as logistics parks. Today the city is one of the largest concentrations of warehouse space in the Inland Empire, strung along Interstate 10 and Interstate 15 on the south side and State Route 210 on the north, with the distribution buildings of the Southridge and Sierra Lakes areas and the industrial corridor along Valley Boulevard and Jurupa Avenue between them.
Fontana is also where trucks themselves are sold and serviced. Truck dealers, trailer dealers, tire shops and truck stops line the Valley Boulevard corridor, and both the Union Pacific and BNSF main lines run through the city. Bloomington, the unincorporated community between Fontana and Rialto, has grown its own cluster of distribution buildings and is part of the same market for a driver.
What our records show here
Fontana and Bloomington together touched about one load a week in our records for January through September 2026, split fairly evenly between deliveries and pickups, almost all in dry vans. The deliveries came from the Salinas Valley and Central Coast about twice a month and from the Phoenix area a few times over the year. The pickups went mostly to Los Angeles County, about once a month, and to other Inland Empire cities.
Partner carriers hauled most of these loads and our own trucks about a third of them. A dropped trailer is rare here in our experience, unlike Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga next door, because the lanes into Fontana are lighter. Every partner carrier is checked through Highway before dispatch.
Getting to Fontana
Fontana is about 50 miles east of central Los Angeles and about 25 miles east of our office in Covina, both on Interstate 10, so it is a same day move from anywhere in the basin and our trucks are nearby most days. The Interstate 10 and Interstate 15 interchange on the city's west side is one of the busiest truck junctions in the state, and the afternoon backup on the 10 eastbound is the thing to plan around for a late delivery. The 210 along the north side is often the quicker approach for the Sierra Lakes area.
From the Central Valley and the Salinas Valley a load delivers here the next day; from Phoenix, next day on Interstate 10; from Las Vegas, the same or next day down Interstate 15 and the Cajon Pass.
Equipment we run to Fontana
Dry vans, with a power only load now and then for shippers that keep their own trailers. The warehouses here load from docks into enclosed 53 foot trailers, and our own fleet is exactly that. Flatbed freight for the manufacturers and the truck and equipment dealers along Valley Boulevard is arranged through partner carriers on request, and the flatbed trucking page explains how we cover it.
Seasonal and local notes
Fontana is in the hottest part of the Inland Empire, with summer afternoons regularly above 100 degrees. If heat can damage your freight, book an early morning slot and say so on the quote request. Winter is milder, but the Cajon Pass just to the north closes in snow and the inbound lanes from the valleys slow for fog, so a December load can take a day longer than a June one. The city enforces truck routes and the older industrial streets south of Valley Boulevard were not built for 53 foot trailers, so the exact dock and any approach instructions help the driver.
Covina, California is our one location, and every Fontana load is planned there.
Data center and heavy equipment freight
The logistics parks going up on the old mill and speedway land, and the data center and industrial projects across San Bernardino County, bring heavy electrical equipment through Fontana on flatbeds and lowboys. The data center freight section covers how we move transformers, switchgear, generators and modules, with permits for oversize pieces.
